MEET THE BAND: ABBY VOXXX

MEET YOUR FRONTMAN:  ABBY VOXXX

Abby hails from the Midwest. She spent most of her youth in Kansas City, Missouri, and attended high school in Denver, Colorado. A talented softball player, Abby went to college on a softball scholarship that brought her back to Kansas. In her words, “I fucked that up real good, and moved to Vegas after school. The goal was to dance for work and use the rest of my time trying to figure out how to pursue music…”

She studied writing with a focus on poetry and creative writing. Abby gives her professors all the credit for helping her become an effective communicator through her lyrics.

YOUTH AND FAMILY:

Abby is the second oldest of six children in her family. She grew up extremely Catholic and likes to say her parents are “more Catholic than God.” Much of the writing and music from this first album comes from her experiences with family and religion. “Drama Queen,” specifically, is a reflection of growing up in a household where individuality wasn’t exactly celebrated.

“Nothing was perfect, and many things were/ remain broken. But also, my family has never meant more to me than they do now, and I love them all, more and more, every moment, forever. The door will always be open. ”

Her mother and father remain two of her greatest artistic influences, as well as, prime examples of strength, and resilience.

“If my parents have taught me anything, it’s this: Complicated relationships are sometimes the most honest and revealing relationships one can have—it’s important to honor people who love you enough to have difficult conversations with you. They care about growing together, instead of apart.”

OTHER WORK:

Abby spent 10 years in the adult industry performing as “Victoria Voxxx.” An award-winning adult film star, Abby has won many AVN, XBIZ, and other adult film awards—not just for acting, but for her music as well. While she doesn’t consider her career “over,” she now takes more breaks from big studio shoots to give herself time to focus on “Voxxx” as well as her other passions.

A Lagree instructor, pornstar, and rockstar… she’s truly one of a kind.

“Art and wellness go hand in hand. My favorite part of doing so much work in such different fields is realizing how they all tie into each other. Music, sex, and human wellness are all aspects of living a full life. I feel fulfilled—and I wish that for everybody.”

INFLUENCES:

“I love Bon Scott, Tina Turner, Rob Halford, Chris Cornell, Ozzy, Slash, Courtney Love, Kurt Cobain, MJK, Michael Jackson, Bootsy, Angelo Moore, Doug Pinnick… the list goes on and is pretty much never-ending. Outside of rock, I love funk and good pop music, as well as show tunes and opera. Though 90s grunge and early metal, seems to own my heart, mostly…"

I think it’s important to have influences that extend beyond the art you wish to produce if you’re aiming to be original. They should all reflect in you without becoming a recycled version of what already exists. I also love reading and writing outside of a musical context, and that is the most important tool I use when I’m inside the musical context of creating.”

Favorites:

Movie: True Romance

Album: “ It’s forever changing, but the one I have on repeat right now is Highway to Hell.”

Song: “Right now it’s “Lateralus” by Tool.”

Color: Fuchsia

Food: “I love steak… really any kind of fresh, bloody, red meat and some form of potatoes.”

Actor: Gary Oldman

Frontman: “Angelo Moore. No one has ever been that energetic and powerful. It’s no contest.”

Singer: “Impossible… Some days it’s Rob Halford, some days it’s Tina Turner. I don’t have a favorite — I love too many.”

Band: " Again, impossible, but my top current bands usually consist of Tool, AC/DC, Soundgarden, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Hole… eh I tried-- I have too many!"

RULES TO LIVE BY:

“ Live passionately, apologize generously, forgive quickly, and when all you can see is reason to hate — look for love… AND SUPPORT NEW MUSIC/ARTISTS ”
